ORLANDO J CAMP

From a small town called Milford, Delaware. I and 10 other African-American students attempted to attend the all white Milford High School. Our education was affirmed by the Supreme Court of the United States under Brown versus the Board of education but was denied by a small town called Milford, Delaware. However, I did not let that period in my life stop my golds and dreams. Years after graduation, I continued my education at Delaware Community College and Temple University.

Decades later, the interest in my story by students, educators, politicians, community representatives, and history Buffs was overwhelming. This recognition started in the early 2000s. I could not believe that an event in a small town many years ago had generated such an attraction and appeal.

In 2004 all eleven black students were awarded AN honorary high school diploma in addition to a plaque with our names engraved that now stands outside the Milford High School today.

I continue my employment career as an employee for a Fortune 500 sales and marketing company. I was so proud to serve in the United States Army and was awarded the Outstanding Soldier Award from the 7th Army in Bamberg, Germany. Also, I received Recognition from Urban League for your courage and Indomitable Spirit.
